*New Policy* Service Dogs and Emotional Support Animal
Description
As UC Berkeley staff, faculty, and students return to campus, there is a new policy in place for service dogs and emotional support animals. This section addresses familiarity with the University’s established policy on service and support animals on campus.
Recommendations
-
Familiarize employees with the University’s policy, practices and resources regarding service and emotional support animals on campus
- Advise employees to review the draft Animals on Campus Policy(link is external)(link is external); it addresses Service Dogs and Emotional Support Animals, as well as other animals, on the campus
- Managers and Supervisors should be prepared for when employees request they be allowed to bring an Emotional Support Animal to work or give notice that they will be using a Service Dog. The Animals as Accommodations page of the DAC website provides insight into this process.
- This is a folder in the DAC Toolkit entitled Service Dogs & Emotional Support Animals(link is external)(link is external) that contains a slide deck and a document with basics on Service Dogs and Emotional Support Animals, and the difference between the two, as well as a document on both within the context of housing.
- Contact Derek Coates if you want a consultation on proper Service Dog etiquette and integration into an office setting
